High School Notes: $1K a month, self-reported, notes marketplace

High School Notes is a marketplace for finding, sharing, buying and selling high school study notes. Its $1K a month was founder-reported on the Indie Hackers product page (not independently verified), as of September 30, 2026.

What it actually sells

High School Notes offers free and paid high school study notes, and users can list their own notes. The marketplace includes free notes as well as notes available to buy and sell.

The site serves students studying HSC, VCE, SACE, QCE, IB and other Australian senior secondary subjects. Users can browse notes by exam, year and subject.

How it charges

Detailed Legal Studies Option Notes are shown for $19.00. Several VCE notes are marked Free, while other study notes are available for purchase.

Where customers come from

The site’s visible discovery paths include browsing by exam, browsing free notes and viewing marketplace listings for buying and selling notes. Its audience includes students studying HSC, VCE, SACE, QCE, IB and other Australian senior secondary subjects.

What stands out

Users can sign up and upload notes immediately. “If you want to sell notes they will need to be approved for sale by our moderation team.”

Where it sits in the data

High School Notes's $1K a month is higher than 40% of the 6,604 projects with founder-reported monthly revenue in our dataset; the median across them is $2K. Snapshot: 2026-09-30. The dataset only covers founders who chose to publish their numbers, so it leans toward businesses that work; use it for scale, not as an average.

Currency

All figures are in US dollars as published. A rough yuan or euro conversion is not applied here because prices, taxes and acquisition costs differ by country.

Could you build something like this?

My view is that demand would come from students who want study materials and sellers who want to offer their own notes. Distribution would need to follow the paths shown on the site: browsing by exam, year and subject, plus dedicated free-note listings.

My view is that the difficult parts are moderation, payment-account support, content quality and marketplace competition. Selling educational material can also introduce intellectual-property and consumer-law requirements, while moderation and seller support create ongoing operational work. Those are general considerations, not claims about High School Notes.

Verdict: Needs real work.

One thing to take from it

The product combines free discovery, paid listings and user-uploaded material in one subject-based marketplace. A similar build would need clear listing rules, moderation, seller payments and structured browsing from the start.
