Volunteering stays with accommodation and food, $2.6K MRR: 2500+ stays

HelpStay.com connects travellers who volunteer their help with hosts offering accommodation and food. Its $2.6K MRR is verified through the payment provider's API by TrustMRR (Stripe), as of September 30, 2026.

What it actually sells

HelpStay.com offers volunteering stays with accommodation and food in exchange for help. Its site says, “Our platform makes travelling meaningful and affordable by allowing helpers to exchange work for accommodation.”

Helpers browse host profiles by location or type of help activity and send hosts a message directly. HelpStay.com also reports “2500+ volunteer stays in 100+ countries” and describes the offering as “Swap skills in 100+ countries.”

How it charges

The pages we read do not state a price. HelpStay.com presents the exchange directly as “offering accommodation and food in exchange,” with helpers and hosts arranging the stay through the platform.

Where it sits in the data

HelpStay.com's $2.6K MRR is higher than 85% of the 5,602 projects with payment-verified revenue in our dataset; the median across them is $150. Within the “Travel” category (95 projects) it is higher than 77% (category median $289). Snapshot: 2026-09-02 to 2026-09-30. The dataset only covers founders who chose to publish their numbers, so it leans toward businesses that work; use it for scale, not as an average.

Currency

All figures are in US dollars as published. A rough yuan or euro conversion is not applied here because prices, taxes and acquisition costs differ by country.

Could you build something like this?

In my view, this needs demand from two sides: travellers seeking affordable accommodation and hosts willing to provide it in exchange for help. Distribution would need to bring both groups into the same matching process, supported by host profiles, location-based discovery, activity-based discovery, and direct messaging.

My view is that screening hosts, coordinating stays, handling support, and managing disagreements would require real operational work. Regulation, trust, payment handling, and competition would also matter, while reviews and clear host standards would carry weight on both sides of the marketplace.

Verdict: Hard to replicate.

One thing to take from it

The product pairs a clear exchange with trust controls. Host screening, direct messaging, two-way reviews, location and activity discovery, and volunteer resources form the operating structure shown on the site.
