$2.5K a month, founder-reported March 10th, 2024: pgMustard query plans
pgMustard visualizes Postgres EXPLAIN plans and gives performance advice for query optimization. Its $2.5K a month was reported by the founder in an interview (not independently verified), as of March 10th, 2024.
What it actually sells
pgMustard is a Postgres EXPLAIN visualisation tool that gives advice on improving query performance. It presents per-operation timings, returned row counts, contextual timing bars and collapsible subtrees.
Its performance advice is “scored by estimated time-saving potential”. It also identifies poor index efficiency and operations on disk.
How it charges
Annual Pro costs 95€ for one user and includes unlimited plan reviews, unlimited saved plans and 1,000 API credits. Annual Team costs 500€ for up to 20 users and includes 20,000 API credits. Annual Company costs 2000€ for unlimited users and includes 200,000 API credits.
Where customers come from
pgMustard links to blog posts for further reading, publishes examples and provides a YouTube walkthrough. Michael Christofides co-hosts the Postgres FM podcast, volunteers for the PgUS web team and helps run the London PostgreSQL Meetup.
What stands out
pgMustard describes itself as “A simple yet powerful tool to help you speed up queries”. Its score and save API endpoints consume API credits, and the site reports more than 400 customers and more than 7,000 people who have used pgMustard over the years.

Where it sits in the data
pgMustard's $2.5K a month is higher than 52% of the 6,604 projects with founder-reported monthly revenue in our dataset; the median across them is $2K. Snapshot: 2026-09-30. The dataset only covers founders who chose to publish their numbers, so it leans toward businesses that work; use it for scale, not as an average.
Currency
All figures are in US dollars as published. A rough yuan or euro conversion is not applied here because prices, taxes and acquisition costs differ by country.
Could you build something like this?
In my view, demand would come from Postgres users who need to understand query plans and make queries faster. The buyer would be the individual developer, team or company deciding which paid plan fits its user access and API-credit requirements.
Distribution would need a visible surface in the Postgres community through educational content, examples and walkthroughs. Building a credible query-analysis product takes real work, including accurate scoring, useful performance advice, dependable API endpoints and enough support to help users interpret results.
Verdict: Needs real work.
One thing to take from it
My view is that the product puts a specific technical task into one surface: visualising a query plan, showing operation-level information and attaching scored performance advice. The product, pricing and educational content all address that task.
