A SaaS starter kit for TypeScript developers, $1K a month, self-reported in 2023: one-time licenses
MakerKit sells production-ready SaaS starter kits and boilerplates for TypeScript developers. Its $1K a month was founder-reported on the Indie Hackers product page (not independently verified), as of July 2023.
What it actually sells
MakerKit sells production-ready SaaS starter kits and boilerplates for TypeScript developers. The site describes the product as a B2B SaaS Starter Kit for individual developers.
The kit includes secure multi-tenancy, authentication, billing, teams, and a super admin. Customers receive the full source code and can modify it freely.
How it charges
Pro costs $349 and Teams costs $649. Both are one-time payments, with lifetime updates and unlimited projects. The Pro license is $349 and the Teams license is $649.
Where customers come from
Development happens in the open on GitHub. Every current kit ships an MCP server and agent rules files. Customers also get direct access to the team through a private Discord community.
What stands out
MakerKit includes personal and team accounts, invitations, roles, and permissions. It also includes a marketing site, blog, documentation, a Figma UI kit, and Discord support.

Where it sits in the data
MakerKit's $1K a month is higher than 40% of the 6,604 projects with founder-reported monthly revenue in our dataset; the median across them is $2K. Snapshot: 2026-09-30. The dataset only covers founders who chose to publish their numbers, so it leans toward businesses that work; use it for scale, not as an average.
Currency
All figures are in US dollars as published. A rough yuan or euro conversion is not applied here because prices, taxes and acquisition costs differ by country.
Could you build something like this?
My view is that this needs real work because the buyer is a TypeScript developer or development team building a SaaS product, and the product has to cover technical foundations such as authentication, billing, multi-tenancy, teams, and permissions. Distribution would depend on reaching developers through open development, documentation, AI coding-tool integrations, and direct community support.
The difficult parts are keeping the starter kits usable across framework major versions, documenting setup clearly, maintaining support through Discord, and competing for developer attention. This is my view of the work involved, not a statement about MakerKit's intentions.
Verdict: Needs real work.
One thing to take from it
My view is that a focused developer product can combine a one-time license with ongoing product surfaces: source code, documentation, open GitHub development, agent rules, an MCP server, and community support.
