Bigcapital: accounting software, $2K a month, self-reported + free trial
Bigcapital is accounting software for small businesses, accountants, and bookkeepers. Its $2K a month was founder-reported on the Indie Hackers product page (not independently verified), as of September 30, 2026.
What it actually sells
Bigcapital is online open-source accounting software for small businesses. Its site lists small businesses, accountants, and bookkeepers as the people it serves: “Modern open-source accounting software for small businesses.”
The product covers sales, purchase, and recurring invoices, business financial reports, inventory tracking, expense tracking, multi-currency transactions, exchange-rate conversions, and manual journals.
How it charges
Capital Essential costs $40 per month. Bigcapital also offers a 14-day free trial.
Where customers come from
Visible site signals include a 14-day free trial, documentation for support, and a Community for additional support.
What stands out
Bigcapital combines invoicing, reports, inventory, expenses, and multi-currency work in one accounting product. Its site says, “Bigcapital has financial reports to run your business with intelligence,” and says inventory stock amounts change automatically when an item is bought or sold.

Where it sits in the data
Bigcapital's $2K a month is higher than 48% of the 6,604 projects with founder-reported monthly revenue in our dataset; the median across them is $2K. Snapshot: 2026-09-30. The dataset only covers founders who chose to publish their numbers, so it leans toward businesses that work; use it for scale, not as an average.
Currency
All figures are in US dollars as published. A rough yuan or euro conversion is not applied here because prices, taxes and acquisition costs differ by country.
Could you build something like this?
My view is that this needs real work. The buyer is a small business, accountant, or bookkeeper, and the product must cover accounting workflows across invoices, reports, inventory, expenses, currencies, and support documentation.
Distribution would need a path to those buyers through search, communities, accounting professionals, or direct outreach. The difficult parts are reliable financial records, multi-currency accounting, data handling, regulatory compliance, support load, and competition with established accounting products.
Verdict: Needs real work.
One thing to take from it
My view: a focused product can present several connected accounting tasks in one place, while a paid plan, free trial, documentation, and community provide visible commercial and support elements.
