Aithor: AI writing for students — $1M a month, self-reported in 2024
Aithor sells AI-powered writing, research, citation, grammar, detection, and paraphrasing tools for students, researchers, and professionals. Its $1M a month was reported by the founder in an interview (not independently verified), as of August 26th, 2024.
What it actually sells
The site says: “Aithor is an AI-powered writing tool designed to help students, researchers, and professionals create high-quality content faster.” Aithor generates essays from a topic prompt. It also says: “Get AI assistance for arguments, additional details, rephrasing, and polishing.” The tools generate and update citations in MLA, APA, Chicago, and more, check grammar and spelling, and estimate the percentage of AI-generated text.
How it charges
The pages we read do not state a price. They show free searchable access to an academic-source database. No currency amounts appear on the pages we read for Aithor’s writing, research, citation, grammar, detection, paraphrasing, or polishing tools.
Where customers come from
The site offers a free searchable academic-source database for research. Its listed tools include an AI Resume Builder, Grammar Checker, Paraphraser, AI Detector, AI Humanizer, and Citation Generator. For the AI Detector, users can paste or upload text to receive an estimate of the percentage of AI-generated parts.
What stands out
Aithor says its research offering provides over 10 million academically verified sources with PDF access and draws material from 12,000+ providers. Aithor began in 2023 as an essay-writing and research tool based on its creator’s own AI model, which was trained in academic and evidence-driven writing.

Where it sits in the data
Aithor's $1M a month is higher than 98% of the 6,604 projects with founder-reported monthly revenue in our dataset; the median across them is $2K. Snapshot: 2026-09-30. The dataset only covers founders who chose to publish their numbers, so it leans toward businesses that work; use it for scale, not as an average.
Currency
All figures are in US dollars as published. A rough yuan or euro conversion is not applied here because prices, taxes and acquisition costs differ by country.
Could you build something like this?
My view is that the buyer groups are students working on essays and papers, researchers looking for sources and citations, and professionals checking or rewriting text. Demand should be validated with those groups before building. Distribution would need channels around academic-source discovery, citation formats, essay prompts, grammar, paraphrasing, and AI-text detection, plus dedicated pages for the separate tools listed by Aithor.
My view is that this needs real work: maintaining source access and PDF delivery, supporting citation formats, handling text uploads and AI-text estimates, and providing support across several workflows. Regulatory work includes reviewing applicable privacy, academic-integrity, and detection requirements. A competitive assessment requires separate research into alternatives and a clear, validated product difference.
Verdict: Needs real work.
One thing to take from it
One thing to take from Aithor is the range of tasks covered by its AI-powered writing tool: essay generation, research, citations, grammar, paraphrasing, detection, and polishing. The site also gives free access to a searchable academic-source database for students, researchers, and professionals.
